We are excited to announce that MarketReader Co-Founder and CTO Web Begole recently achieved a significant milestone in his career by obtaining Chartered Market Technician (CMT) member status.
We asked Web a few questions about his career, his role at MarketReader, his other industry experience, and where he sees the financial technology industry heading next:
Q: Can you tell us a bit about what this achievement means for you and for MarketReader?
Web: As a programmer all my life, analyzing the immense amount of data available in financial markets has been an ever attractive problem to work on. The onset of electronic trading and more readily accessible tools and services over the past couple decades has allowed me, with a background not in financial markets, to get involved and to find confidence in taking active control of my investments. Becoming a CMT member is a significant milestone for me. The curriculum focuses beyond economics and fundamentals, but also on the wide gamut of charting techniques, portfolio analysis, risk control, etc.
This breadth of knowledge brought to the work we’re doing at MarketReader helps guide our automated analysis towards a holistic approach to answering the question “Why is that moving?”
It’s our goal to assist and inform everyone, at every level and experience in finance, about the happenings that move markets in a way that is easy to understand and breaks down barriers that may have kept information out of reach. As a professional member I embrace the same code of ethics and professional standards as fellow CMTs and CFAs. That may be a bit unique for a technical lead, but as we build one of the most sophisticated AI market analysts, it is important that our systems and their output adhere to the same standards of integrity.
Q: As the CTO of MarketReader, could you elaborate on your role in the company and how your expertise contributes to its success?
Web: I'm responsible for designing and developing MarketReader's core infrastructure, which includes everything from data ingestion and normalization to market data analytics and generative AI integration. My expertise enables us to provide users with comprehensive real-time insights into US-listed equities and ETFs, which is crucial in today's fast-paced market environment.
Q: Can you also tell us about your involvement in steering the company's direction?
Web: I'm deeply involved in our product strategy and determining our road map in addition to refining our analytical methodologies and implementations, ensuring that we remain innovative and effective in our approach. By maintaining MarketReader's status as a cutting-edge market intelligence solution, we continue to provide value to investors, advisors, and institutions alike.
Q: Before MarketReader, you served as the Founding Chief Technology Officer at Exante Data. Could you share some insights from that experience and how it has influenced your work at MarketReader?
Web: At Exante Data, I was responsible for establishing and evolving the company's technological framework which continues to allow the company to iterate quickly on new analytics surrounding the most immediate global market stories. This experience has undoubtedly informed my approach to market analysis and technology development at MarketReader.
Q: Beyond your professional roles, you've also made significant contributions to the trading community, particularly with the creation of the MarketWebs technical analysis indicator. Could you tell us more about that?
Web: Absolutely. MarketWebs leverages Auction Market Theory to identify current trends, significant price levels, future targets, and areas of expected range-bound price action. It's been widely used by traders and investors since its inception in 2015, and I'm proud of the impact it's had on the trading community.
Q: Your background is quite diverse, blending both arts and sciences. How do you think this unique perspective influences your work in financial markets?
Web: My academic and professional journeys have indeed provided me with a distinct perspective that I bring to my career in financial markets. With an MFA in Theatre Directing and experience producing theatrical shows in New York City, I've developed a keen ability to discern and narrate complex stories, which greatly influences my approach to market analysis.
Q: Finally, becoming a CMT member must open up new opportunities for collaboration and learning. How do you plan to leverage this achievement moving forward?
Web: I'm excited about the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from fellow CMT members, bringing fresh perspectives and insights to the field. My achievement of CMT member status is a testament to my dedication and commitment to excellence, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the financial technology industry.
